cookies and trophies

I'm not sure Daniel had a cookie before the age of one. And when I finally let him eat one, it was rare. Elizabeth had eaten cookies since who knows when, and knows exactly where I keep them in the kitchen. She will go in there for something to eat and shake her head no to many choices to let me know she really wants a cookie.

Tonight, we had Friday Night Out for dinner and ordered the plate of cookies for dessert. Much excitement amongst the Ward kiddies when the plate arrived. Daniel takes one and goes to town. We give one to Elizabeth who responds, "mmmm..." and then, "uh, uh" reaching for another for her empty hand. She has one in each hand and will not let go of them, even to put on her coat. "Is your cookie good?" I ask. She vigorously nods, "yes."

I am reading the best mom book of all time. It's called, "Momfidence." I have never laughed so hard in my life, and I agree with her advice. Anyway, there is a chapter on activities for kids and how they are really too young to do most things. I am beginning to feel that way about gymnastics. Daniel is coordinated enough to do the tricks (roll, handstand, jumps) but he cannot handle being in the big gym with me behind a window. Oh well, you live you learn.

Today we went to tour a YMCA because the pool membership is so much cheaper than one of the hotels or clubs (if I ever get off the waiting list) near our house. They gave us a program guide, and I noticed they offer beginner teeball for 3-4 year olds. I mention this to Daniel. He says, "I will have to wear my fast shoes so I can run and beat everyone." And then, he is just gushing, "Will I hit? Will we win a trophy?" I had no idea he knew what a trophy was! I ask him again. "You get a trophy when you win! It's this fing you get when you win, Mommy. Will there be a coach?"

We'll see....
